These files document Governor James D. Black's use of the governor's power and privilege to pardon convicts, and to postpone and remit fines. Included are petitions for people convicted of a variety of offenses. These petitions are the largest record series in Governor Black's papers. Some of the larger cases include Moore and Fitzhugh, James Thacker, Charlie Sandlin, Fred Pike, George W. Spencer, D. F. Deaton, B. E. Choate, and American Indemnity Company. Also included are rejected petitions.
